One of the most enjoyable aspects of being a gardener is how much enjoyment we get from visiting other gardens. Who doesn’t need more inspiration, not to mention a well earned break from weeding your own garden?
The Garden Conservancy allows us to peek into the backyards of some truly exceptional private gardens, with their Open Days program. Some are small and personal, some leave you lusting for more land. I’ve never been disappointed.
You get a guide book with all the scheduled Open Days for the year, with annual dues to the Garden Conservancy. But you don’t have to join to visit the gardens. There’s a $7 fee to enter each garden and most of that money is a fundraiser for the Conservancy. So they post upcoming Open Days on their site, along with directions. I can’t recommend them enough. This week there’s an Open Day in Garrison.
The Garden Conservancy also partners with public gardens, offering reduced admission prices on certain day. This weekend you can visit Stonecrop Gardens in Cold Spring and I think it must be the perfect time to see it. Maybe I’ll see you there!
